It's made from ethically sourced Italian vegetable-tanned leather, so the cover you carry out of the box won't be the one you're carrying a year from now. It softens, darkens, and picks up a patina that tracks your use.

The Misfit Bin — cosmetically weird, structurally fine, priced accordingly.

This Journal Kit has a few cosmetic quirks that kept it out of our standard collection. Maybe it's an extra scratch, a tannery stamp, some color variation, or another imperfection. Nothing that affects how it works, just enough to earn a spot in The Misfit Bin.

The notebook inserts, kraft folder, and zipper pouch are all brand new and exactly the same as those included in our standard Journal Kits.

We don't think a perfectly good piece of leather should end up in the trash over a few cosmetic blemishes. It was once part of a living animal, and we think that's worth respecting.

About This Leather

This journal is cut from full-grain vegetable-tanned leather produced by La Perla Azzurra, an Italian tannery renowned for creating distinctive leathers that combine traditional craftsmanship with innovative finishing techniques. Using natural vegetable tannins, each hide is slowly tanned to preserve its strength, character, and ability to develop a rich patina over time.

The Ghost Camo finish features a subtle camouflage pattern created through a layered finishing process. As the journal is carried and used, the surface gradually burnishes and develops a unique patina, allowing the pattern and underlying tones to evolve naturally. No two journals age exactly alike, making each one a truly individual piece.

Care Instructions

Your journal is built to be used every day. Over time, the leather will naturally soften and develop a unique patina that reflects how you use it.

To keep it looking its best:

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to water or excessive moisture.
  • If it gets wet, allow it to air dry fully before using it again.
  • If desired, apply a small amount of quality leather conditioner every few months to maintain suppleness.
